I’ve decided to change my shopping strategy. Seeing as how I hate shopping in stores, I’ve decided to take my shopping online – to sites like Kijiji and Craigslist (and any other site that will ship to Canada for free or a minimal fee).
Not sure why I stayed away for so long – shopping online that is. The last time I used Kijiji was to look for dining room furniture. 5 years ago. Cost me $300 for a hutch, dining room table and 6 chairs.
I guess life got in the way and I was spending money on work clothes, car payments and train passes. Oh and lunches with colleagues. I calculated a few weeks ago what “working” cost me back then – apparently a lot – as in $500-600 a month!
But now that I’m a SAHM (still looks very strange when I refer to myself as that even after 2 years) and looking for ways to stretch a dollar, I’m back on the Kijiji bandwagon.
I have been searching every day for the last couple of weeks and have finally found a headboard which I will give a little makeover to for my 2 year old daughter.
I was really picky about the headboard “it list”:
- had to be solid wood (so I could sand and paint over it),
- had to be for a single bed because her room isn’t big enough for a double,
- and had to be $75 or under.
So I finally found something I love and am about to pick it up this weekend.
Hello Kijiji! I don’t know why I stayed away for so long. I think I love you.
I’ll try to post some before and after shots. I’m going for A Beach Cottage look (I know, I don’t live by the sea or even near it – I’m in a big cement city) but I like to pretend I live on a beach. It helps when it’s -30C outside and snowstorming.
I know many of you love Kijiji (and Craigslist). What were your best buys? I wonder if I could build my Fall wardrobe just from those two sites – I would venture to a second hand store but the closest one to me is QUITE far (half an hour drive maybe).
